Take Action FAST
A celebration honouring the people in Bangladesh who make our clothes. On May 4 and 5, 2017, 250 people came to the Great Hall in downtown Toronto for music, art, fashion, food and politics.
There were Bangladeshi and Canadian performers, music, dance and poetry. Pop up fashion market. Three art installations: "Flowers and Threads" Forty "shaplas" made by Bangladeshi and Canadian garment workers; "Mock Sweatshop" People were taught how to sew giant t shirts by members of Workers United Union; "Rana Plaza Memorial" eleven chairs in a circle with quotes from survivors of the disaster, rubble and fabric scraps from the site on the floor.
The Project was conceived and executed by Robin Pacific, assisted by Alarice Jones, Mou Modhubontee, Mike Haliechuk, Global Youth Initiative (Hanna and Sarah Syed and twelve volunteers), Frank Bunn, Zoya Islam, Joss Maclennan.
